Uprooted Novel by Naomi Novik

“You intolerable lunatic," he snarled at me, and then he caught my face between his hands and kissed me.”
 ― Naomi Novik, Uprooted

Synopsis

Our Dragon doesn’t eat the girls he takes, no matter what stories they tell outside our valley. We hear them sometimes, from travelers passing through. They talk as though we were doing human sacrifice, and he were a real dragon. Of course that’s not true: he may be a wizard and immortal, but he’s still a man, and our fathers would band together and kill him if he wanted to eat one of us every ten years. He protects us against the Wood, and we’re grateful, but not that grateful.”
Agnieszka loves her valley home, her quiet village, the forests and the bright shining river. But the corrupted Wood stands on the border, full of malevolent power, and its shadow lies over her life.

Review

Oh man! Oh man!  What a wonderful book. I use to read all these romantic comedy books. which i still love. But then again i was like let’s give a chance for fantasy. Glad i did.
This book captivates a reader's heart like an arrow that doesn't miss its target. Every word and every line in this book will just charm your socks off.
So the story starts in a small village where The Dragon who is part wizard, comes and picks a seventeen year old girl. And then takes her to his place to serve him for ten years. So in this place, no one knows what happens to them. And they are not seen for 10 whole years (you get the picture) and they are changed.
And of course...the gruesome, corrupted woods. Which is alive by the way. I got chills reading about the woods. Its horrifying and amazing at the same time. When you are reading about the woods, it’s like you are actually in the evil wood, with these creepy creatures. You get touched by them and that's it. They will claim you.

“Those the walkers carried into the Wood were less lucky. We didn't know what happened to them, but they came back out sometimes, corrupted in the worst way: smiling and cheerful, unharmed. They seemed almost themselves to anyone who didn't know them well, and you might spend half a day talking with one of them and never realize anything was wrong, until you found yourself taking up a knife and cutting off your own hand, putting out your own eyes, your own tongue, while they kept talking all the while, smiling, horrible. And then they would take the knife and go inside your house, to your children, while you lay outside blind and choking and helpless even to scream. If someone we loved was taken by the walkers, the only thing we knew to hope for them was death, and it could only be a hope.”

There is romance, action, evil, happiness, love, hate and whatnot.  I absolutely loved this book.  I can't wait to re-read it again.  The story was so unpredictable. Because when you are reading fantasy books for a long time. You would know what's about to happen next, but not with this book.
If i could give more stars, i would. I highly recommend this book to any Fantasy or any reader who enjoys adventure.
