Shadow and Bone (The Shadow and Bone Trilogy #1) by Leigh Bardugo

Synopsis

Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee.

Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.

Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha . . . and the secrets of her heart.

Review

Hi guys...So it's been ages since I start to write again. And I'm happy to say that finally, I'm out of a major reading slump. Thank youlord.

“There is something more powerful than any army. Something strong enough to topple kings, and even Darklings. Do you know what that thing is?”I shook my head, inching away from him.“Faith,” he breathed, his black eyes wild. “Faith.” ― Leigh Bardugo, Shadow and Bone

This book was on my TBR list for a long time. Finally, I got down to it. The book was alright. This one is going to be an easy review. Got nothing special to say about this book. I liked the story but it was kinda a Meh! Feeling for me.

I've heard great things about the writer. Especially the book "Six of crows." Everyone is raving about it and I believe it will be better than this book.

There was not much of a story to tell. Just another weak girl trying to save the world. I don't get a character like that. It's all whining to me. Too harsh but cant help.

The main character Alina Starkov was super boring. We get it. You hate your life. She's like twenty-four hours PMSing(eye roll). And the worst part is that she has this great power within her and she shut it down or buries it deep within herself for a boy. (I can't even.)

“So I'd made my choice. I'd pushed my power down and held it there each day, with all my energy and will, without ever realizing it. I'd used up every bit of myself to keep that secret.” ― Leigh Bardugo, Shadow and Bone

What I liked about the book was the darkling character. Why you may ask? I have this weak spot for villains. I don't know. If you have watched vampire diaries, I was dead hooked on Klaus (sigh).

“The Darkling slumped back in his chair. “Fine,” he said with a weary shrug. “Make me your villain.” ― Leigh Bardugo, Shadow and Bone

And the other guy Mal. Ugh. Horrible.

This book is fast-paced, and I read it within a day. And I love the writing style of the writer.

The thing with me and the book series is that even if the first books suck. I will keep on reading the other sequels. Sometimes the story does get better.

Ratings 3/5

I hope you enjoyed the review.

Until next time,

Love

Zo
